Gawler Harness Racing Club invited the pony trotters to race at their meeting today.  Earlier in the morning the weather wasn’t looking the best but luck was on our side and the sun came out for a couple of hours for us to run our two races.  There were two mixed races with the first race seeing Reggie Ledgie start off the front mark of 490 metres.  Being a mixed class the ponies were handicapped over 200 metres which proved to be a bit hard for the ponies coming from the back marks.

Turning for home Cowboy Road hit the lead ahead of Crackerjack who was making ground fast.  Reggie Ledgie was on the rails but misbehaving and close up was Wynkie Sweet Fairytales making a run and Westbury Bogart close by.  There was a gap back to Summer Surprise and a further gap back to Little Paleface and Monkey Business.

Half way down the straight Brodie Webster said go on Wynkie Sweet Fairytales and cruised to the line to win easy with Crackjack grabbing Cowboy Road on the line.

PJ started off the front mark of 390 metres and today never looked endanger as he trotted faultlessly to the line.

As PJ led the field turning for home there was a 20 metre gap back to a group of ponies Eddy’s A Fake on the rails, Midnight Star in the centre and Ben Ten on the outside with 50 metres back to Mr Murphy and Magpie Mary.

Under hard driving down the straight Sharni Newman was encouraging Midnight Star to the line to try and get her first winner for the season but it was not to be and PJ held on to win from the consistent Midnight Star and Mr Murphy in third position.
