The 14th of March Mount Gambier Harness Racing meeting again saw two tightly competed pony races again on the agenda. Both races were proudly sponsored by the Mount Gambier Navy Cadets.
Pony Drivers also organised a raffle which will help purchase prizes for the end of Year presentations.
1st- ‘Your Inspiration at home’ hamper- Jaime Bowditch
2nd-Seafood from: Southern United Seafood/C & A Sealey- Chloe Fensom
3rd- Canopy Interiors Hamper- Chris Sealey
4th- Badenoch Butcher Voucher- Chubby
The first race started with 28 year old pony trotter Marmalade and driver Stacey Barker shooting off their back mark storming down the home straight closely behind pace setter, Lucy and Keeley Formosa. Lucy was first over the line ahead of Marmalade, close behind were Blaze and Courtney Sealey. It was a terrific performance by Pee Wee Penny and Evie Sealey; however the pair was not able to catch the leaders. Slim Dusty and Amber Formosa cruised down the home straight in a yet another excellent race. Jerry and Nicola Bowditch couldn’t quite catch the leaders after their previous gold cup win at the last race meeting. Jessica Shepherd and her pony Minty were not in their true form and were over the line last. There was a slight delay at the tail end of the field with Jackim and Jacob Opperman being a late scratching.
Race 2: Mt Gambier Navy Cadet Cup. Nothing was stopping these young drivers and their ponies as it rained heavily on the grounds. Lucy again had the original lead at the front of the field, however the rest of the ponies were fast approaching. The dynamic duo Marmalade and Stacey Barker proved age wasn’t a concern and they won the race. Second place went to Pee Wee Penny and driver Evie Sealey was over the moon with the results. Third went to consistent combination Courtney Sealey and Blaze, followed by Jerry and Nicola Bowditch. Backmarkers Minty and Jessica Shepherd received 5th place ahead of Lucy (Keeley Formosa) and Slim Dusty for Amber Formosa.
