Slim Dusty driven by Amity Formosa took the lead in the early stages of race 1, sponsored by the Produce Store. As the field reached the home straight, the group of ponies spread across the track. Jackim with Jacob Opperman in the sulky, lengthened his stride storming down the outside of the track. It was a very close finish, but Slim Dusty and Amity Formosa earned themselves a disqualification due to breaking out of a trot. A very excited Jacob Opperman received first place with Jackim, ahead of Oliver Twist (Bryce Bygate), Zena (Kimberley Opperman), Marmalade (Mikayla Bygate), Buddy Boom Boom (Evie Sealey) and following them were Jerry, Blaze and Super Mario.

Frontmarker Slim Dusty (Amity Formosa) had another good start in the N & J Freight Handicap. Zena and Kimberley Opperman tried hard to catch the leader but found no opportunity. Marmalade’s performance improved and was able to dominate Oliver Twist. Jackim and Jacob Opperman received another win for the night. They were followed by Slim Dusty in 2nd place and Marmalade (Mikayla Bygate) in 3rd place, ahead of Oliver Twist (Bryce Bygate), Zena (Kimberley Opperman), Blaze (Amber Formosa), Buddy Boom Boom (Evie Sealey), Super Mario (Keeley Formosa) and Jerry (Nicola Bowditch).

Next race meeting (Saturday 4th March), the pony trotters will be racing in the prestigious gold cup, and reinswomen will continue wearing their teal pants to support the women’s cancer foundation and raising funds for a good cause.
