The opening event of the season saw six ponies and drivers line up for the Sealey Family
Pony Trot. New comer Kimberley Opperman, following in her brother Jacobs footsteps,
debuted on the pony Zena. A seasoned campaigner, Zena raced consistently a few years
ago, and has made a comeback to pony trotting. Although starting off a bit quick, Zena soon
settled into a trot and Kimberley drove her pony well. Buddy Boom Boom lead the ponies
out of the back straight, only to shy at a crow and swing sideways, allowing Slim Dusty and
Super Mario to gain ground. The Formosa twins (Amity and Keeley) drove their ponies, Slim
Dusty & Super Mario, well and were maintaining the front positions heading into the home
straight, closely followed by Buddy Boom Boom (Evie Sealey). Blaze (Amber Formosa) and
backmarker Jackim (Jacob Opperman) were closing the gap fast as the winning post drew
near. Storming down the outside Blaze was first over the line, closely followed by Keeley
Formosa on her new pony Super Mario and Amity Formosa on the ever reliable Slim Dusty.
Buddy Boom Booms little legs saw him trot over the line in forth position, followed by
Jackim and Jacob Opperman and Zena and Kimberley bringing up the rear of the field.
Dennis & Sandra Gray sponsored second race was run and won much the same as the first.
Blaze and Amber crossed the line first to make it a double for the night. Slim Dusty and
Amity finished in second in a very close contest with Buddy Boom Boom and Evie on board.
Rounding out the positions were Jackim & Jacob and finishing closer Zena and Kimberley, in
an improved performance. Super Mario & Keeley were a late scratching in the race. Next
meeting will be Tuesday night the 22nd November.
