The 6th of April Easter Monday harness racing meeting saw wet conditions for the running of the prestigious pony Easter Cup. Dispite the wet weather, there was no stopping the junior drivers from getting a little mud on themselves though.
RACE 1:
The
first race for the afternoon was sponsored by Des and Heather Glynn,
who have been providing their grandchildren with ponies for the past few
seasons. Jackim and Jacob Opperman were back for this meeting after a
break. The field of ponies were lead by Lucy and Keeley Formosa
originally until the rest of the ponies reached them. First over the
line went to Pee Wee Penny and Evie Sealey, second went Courtney Sealey
and Blaze. Not far behind the leader was Marmalade and Stacey Barker.
Slim Dusty couldn't catch the leaders and managed to recurve fourth
place. Minty and Jessica Shepherd made ground enabling them to receive
fifth placing ahead of Lucy and Keeley Formosa who couldn't stand the
pressure from the rest of the ponies. Jerry and Nicola Bowditch were out
of the placings in this race as well as Jackim and
Jacob Opperman who were taking it slow in this race.
RACE 2
Slim
Dusty was off to a flying start with Marmade making ground at a steady
pace during the Easter Cup. Jerry was quickly approaching Lucy, and
overtook her. On the home straight Lucy drifted across the track with
Blaze (Courtney Sealey), Pee Wee Penny and Evie Sealey and
Jackim and Jacob Opperman at the back of the field. Slim Dusty and
Amber Formosa blew everyone away and received first place,
Marmalade and Stacey Barker was a close second and Minty and Jessica shepherd stormed home for a third.
