PHOTO FINISH DECIDES GOLD CUP
The combination of Willow and Abbey Gull took out the Mount Gambier Pony Gold Cup on Friday night at the Greenwald Paceway in a fiercely contested race decided by a photo finish.
In front of a huge crowd gathered for the premier race meeting, Willow led out from the front mark and managed to maintain his lead ahead of the fast approaching backmarkers. Abbey Gull drove Willow, the smallest pony of the field, to perfection. She kept her pony in stride and maintained her composure as the back markers began making ground in the straight. This cemented her win by just a half head from Snoopy & Kylie Shepherd.
Snoopy’s performance was a credit to Kylie considering his extra handicap for last weeks win.In third place was a fast finishing Minty (Hayley Greenfield) who ran out of ground as the finish line loomed.
Following closely were an unlucky Pamela (Joshua Micallef), Frankie Under Fire (Matthew Shepherd), Pumpkin (Emma Greenfield), Slim Dusty (Stacey Barker) & Marmalade (Jackie Barker).
Abbey Gull & Willow were awarded the Gold Cup trophy donated by Balnaves of Penola & a pony rug donated by Five Star Seafoods & The Highway Super Deli.
