It was a lovely mild night at the trots and this week we had the pleasure of two young aspiring commentators. There was our Port Pirie caller, Rehn Nagel who has been starring throughout the week on the Channel 9 Today Show, then a story on the harness racing website and even the ABC have been in touch with him. Rehn called the last two pony races.
The other young caller is Lachlan Stace who called the first two pony races tonight, he is 10 years old and has been calling races on SKY Channel from his living room for the past three years, his idol is Jim Jacques and hopes one day to be as good as him.
It is fabulous to have some interested new blood coming into the sport. Congratulations to both Rehn and Lachlan on a job well done.

In the first race tonight the Shetland class we had a new race caller, Lachlan Stace taking to the microphone for the first time and as most people would know race calling can be a little difficult until you become familiar with all the drivers and their ponies so he did very well.
The Shetland although a small field are spread over a distance of 120 metres at the start of the race so it is always exciting that they can finish within metres of one another. Tonight as usual Midnight Star started off the front mark but this time made every post a winner and held on to win from Its All About Me and Wandarra Tess in a close finish.
The final placings were Midnight Star (Sharni Newman) first, Its All About Me (Chantelle Rendall) second and Wandarra Tess (Jacinta Gilbert) third.
[Note: Its All About Me veered to the inside in the home straight and is required to do 1 satisfactory trial]

Chilli Knights crossed the line an easy winner ahead of Born To Be Wild, Westbury Bogart and Summer Surprise and Little Kizz making a last minute dash towards the line.
