There was a big night of pony racing at the Greenwald Paceway on Saturday night.
Race 1 sponsored by Craig & Michelle Gull was a closely contested race with Snoopy & Kylie Shepherd in fine form from the outset. Starting quickly they shot off to take the lead with the field chasing their tail.
Marmalade (Jackie Barker) closed in quickly from the backmark but was unable to make up enough ground.
Frankie Under Fire & Matthew Shepherd made headway down the straight & was trying to draw alongside Snoopy when they passed the finish line. So in a Shepherd quinella 1st place went to Snoopy & 2nd place to Frankie Under Fire.
Marmalade came 3rd over the line followed by Slim Dusty (Stacey Barker), Pumpkin (Emma Greenfield), Willow (Abbey Gull) & Minty (Hayley Greenfield).
In the K. Pettit & R. Lattin Racing Stables Handicap the ponies took to the track in another great display of junior horsemanship.
Abbey Gull drove Willow out hard to take the lead & kept the pressure on for the entire race to win for the 5th time this season.
The backmarker Pumpkin (Emma Greenfield) stormed through the field blitzing home for 2nd.
In 3rd place Frankie Under Fire with Matthew Shepherd showed very consistent form ahead of Slim Dusty (Stacey Barker), Marmalade (Jackie Barker), Snoopy (Kylie Shepherd) & Minty (Hayley Greenfield).
The pony season will draw to a close next Saturday night with presentations to the drivers & the announcement of Pony of the Year. With only 3 points separating the top 2 ponies the winner will be decided after next week’s races.
