Mount Gambier Pony Trotters gathered on Tuesday night to race in the two programmed races at Greenwald Paceway. Mikaela Bygate travelled from interstate to debut on experienced pony racer Marmalade, alongside brother, Bryce Bygate, who is a second season driver aboard Oliver Twist who also debuted on the new track at Greenwald paceway. Unfortunately, Jackim and Jacob Opperman, Buddy Boom Boom and Evie Sealey and Kimberley Opperman and Zena were unable to attend this race meeting.
Race one, sponsored
by the Shepherd Family, kicked off with Blaze flying off his mark making ground
on Oliver Twist who was threatening the rest of the field who were flying
around the top turn and quickly advanced to the home straight behind Super
Mario (Keeley Formosa) and Slim Dusty (Amity Formosa). First season pony Super
Mario driven superbly by Keeley Formosa, blitzed down the home straight at
least 10 metres in front of the group of ponies. Second went to Slim Dusty and
Amity Formosa, ahead of Jerry (Nicola Bowditch), Blaze (Amber Formosa),
Marmalade (Mikaela Bygate) and Oliver Twist.
Race 2 had results
very similar to the first race. This time, Oliver Twist and Bryce Bygate had a
keen eye on getting further up the placings than younger sister, Mikaela. Super
Mario took out the double for the night, second went to Oliver Twist and Bryce
Bygate, behind them were Slim Dusty (Amity Formosa), Blaze (Amber Formosa),
Jerry (Nicola Bowditch). Mikaela Bygate and Marmalade unfortunately couldn’t get
the motivation needed to get in the placings.
The pony drivers were lucky enough to meet AFL footballer Jeremy Cameron, who also presented them with prizes on the night. Next race meeting is on 10th of December and another 2 pony races are in the schedule.
