There were 2 pony races on the program for Friday evening at Greenwald Paceway in what showed to be an extremely thrilling night, with a new pony, Buddy Boom Boom, bringing fierce determination to the track.
Race 1 which was sponsored by Sportspower-Mount Gambier saw 6 ponies struggling for the win. Slim Dusty driven flawlessly by Keeley Formosa took off of their front mark with nothing to lose, but under hard conditions, Minty (Jessica Shepherd) and Blaze fought it out over the line. Minty and Jessica Shepherd was over the line first only a head in front of Blaze and Amber Formosa. Third went to Jackim and Jacob Opperman, Buddy Boom Boom (Evie Sealey) flew down the straight for a fourth ahead of Slim Dusty (Keeley Formosa) followed by Marmalade and Bryce Bygate who didn’t bring the same vibe as usual.
In race 2, all were interested to see the outcome of the 800 metre marathon race, with ponies handicapped as far back as the finishing post. Buddy Boom Boom jumped to an early lead, but it did not take long for all the ponies to form a bunch going down the back straight. Coming around the top turn, the fight to gain the lead was between Blaze (Amber Formosa) and Minty (Jessica Shepherd) again. Blaze got to the line first, followed by Minty (Jessica Shepherd), third place went to Jackim (Jacob Opperman)who has been in good form this season, Buddy Boom Boom received fourth, due to disqualification. Marmalade (Bryce Bygate), and Slim Dusty (Keeley Formosa) were luckless this meeting.
